Hey everyone,
Sorry it’s been awhile, right now I am deep into pre-production on a few projects. My script is finalized and I will let you guys know how thats going in a later post. Additionally, I am producing my friend Clayton Hinshaw’s film which we just recently went location scouting for. His film will take place deep in the woods of Flagstaff, Arizona in February 2011. That means we will freeze to death. Clayton’s film includes some fight choreography and stunts, which definitely puts quite a bit of pressure on me as the producer, but I will speak about that sometime soon in another post.
A cute little promo i just finished for pbs. Check it out
Director VS Writer
What happens when the director has a vision and a writer has a different vision? hmm…nothing… the script never gets done. That is the exact position I am in today. Over the summer I came up with a message that I desperately want to communicate to people. The messages deals with privacy. As I have mentioned before, I founded a company that deals with social networking and advertising. For the past two years of developing Blimee, I have learned two important things (among a ton of other stuff). People love to share the most personal information through social networks and advertisers are willing to do anything to get a hold of all of that information, so this means all of your info on Facebook and Twitter such as your name, gender, race, age, phone number, siblings, martial status, religion, favorite books, music, movies, friends, your conversations and most importantly your location. It’s unbelievably easy for an advertiser to gather that information, which means that companies know who you are, where you are and what your talking about. You might be thinking, Marius your dumb nobody could just steal all of my privacy that easy. That is very true, these companies can’t force you to give them your personal information, but they make it very tempting. When is the last time you payed to use an online service? do you pay for Facebook, twitter, myspace, youtube, foursquare? No. Are they multi million dollar companies? Yes. You pay with your privacy! How much of your privacy do you still have?
Sorry I got a bit carried away, but thats pretty much the subject that I would like to address in my film. So everyone thinks that I have a great subject for my film, but it has been the hardest thing to develop an actual narrative story that could deliver this message. Finally my writer, Joey (he is an amazing writer!) has decided to step up to the plate and help me tell this story. He just finished his first draft about a week ago and it was great, BUT my message somehow got a little lost. This is understandable since he is a superb narrative writer that focused on character development and story telling rather than my subject about advertisers stealing privacy from potential customers (that just does not sound like a interesting movie, Haha). Joey and I decided that we should try to do a complete rewrite, therefore I am now patiently waiting until next week when he will deliver another script, which I am very excited for. I hope the next script is the right script. I hope my idea mixed with Joey’s narrative vision could come together and make a wonderful baby script. Any feedback is appreciated, let me know if you have ideas or want to be involved with the project. I will keep everyone updated as soon as I receive the new script!
Here is another piece of inspiration and this one is strictly for the visuals. The Raven short film has gained quite a bit of popularity recently. Mark Wahlberg took interest in the piece and helped the filmmakers land a deal with a major studio to expand the short into a feature. The short film looks great! but to know that it was only made for 5,000 dollars makes it even more appealing.
Before I begin telling everyone what my film is about I will post a few inspiration pieces that will provide you with a feel and state of mind that inspire my film. The piece by Neil Blomkamp has a very grungy feel (Children of Men feel). and it manages to fit quite a bit of story in a very short time and that is my goal as well. To make my short film very short with a story that will make people realize something that they have not realized before, but I guess those are very general wants.
